Note: Riders italicised are currently still active. Years in bold indicate when the rider won the overall classification.

Bradley Wiggins becomes the fifth rider from the United Kingdom to pull on the yellow jersey following Stage Seven to La Planche des Belles Filles. Wiggins holds a 10 second lead over second place Australian Cadel Evans. Evans has been in the yellow jersey for 8 days in three different editions of the race and depending on results across Stages Eight and Nine he could slip into yellow for a few more days. However Wiggins prowess in time trials could see him leap to second of British riders to wear yellow behind Chris Boardman who wore yellow in 1994, 1997 and 1998.
